Yearn

In earlier posts, I have written how much music speaks to me. Recently, I had the privilege of attending a Shane and Shane concert at church. It was amazing! Not just because they are talented musicians, but because their music is full of scripture and their concerts always have a message. This particular concert was called "Thanks Giving". They talked and sang about how we are called to live a live of praise -- regardless of life's events. So, I had to include this song on the blog and I'll explain.

I started listening to this song, looked up the lyrics and found the scripture references at the end. The first one is Acts 17: 24-28. Whew! What a verse.

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being."

Oh, isn't this such a great word?

If you know me, then you know that I am a planner. I'm not really a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of gal. This is hard to admit, but I'm not. I live by plans and goals. (But trust me, God is working this out in my life! Don't you know God shakes His head at me a little each time I plan something new..."when will she learn?") So, when life throws me a "curve-ball", I'm always surprised. Recently, I have found myself in such a place -- overwhelmed by life's circumstances, rather than seeking Him -- the Omnipotent (All Powerful) God of the universe!

This is why I love this song. What a great prayer! "In this place in time (not when my circumstances are different), that I might seek and find my God...Lord, I want to yearn for you; I want to burn with passion over You and ONLY You!" He designed these very circumstances in life that I might seek Him -- right now! "In his heart a man plans His course, but the Lord determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9 He gives life and breath and everything else. Nothing comes to me without touching His hands first!

Yearn -- Shane Barnard and Shane Everett
holy design
this place in time
that i might seek and find my God
my God

Lord i want to yearn for You
i want to burn with passion
over You and only You
Lord i want to yearn

Your joy is mine
yet why am i fine
with all my singing and bringing grain
in light of Him

oh You give life and breath
through Him You give all things
in Him we live and move
that's why i sing

Acts 17:25-28, Hebrews 12:28-29
